1948 Mercer Riot gets some women strapped!

Seems like 10 strokes wasn't enough if 10 more continued to be problematic and even 5 more were repeatedly so.

Readers, what do you think they should have done instead?

  1. Wow. Did a bit more research on the Mercer Reformatory. Girls 16 and up were sent there, sometimes even if their parent found them to be incorrigible. Some pretty shocking stuff went on there, the prison strap being the least of it.

But the concept, minus the extreme abuse (!) is 'sorta attractive to a kinkster, I will admit.

    From Wikipedia:
The reformatory had the idealistic promise of a "home-like" atmosphere for its inmates. One of the major tenets of the reformatory was to instill feminine Victorian virtues such as obedience and servility. Work, such as cooking, baking, and cleaning, was also a major part of prison life. According to one superintendent of the reformatory, "of all wretched women the idle are the most wretched. We try to impress upon them the importance of labour, and we look upon this as one of the great means of their reformation."

    Enforced with the strap!

  2. Yes, it was quite a strict place!

"Inmates were forbidden from lying on their beds during the day and were subject to stringent rules about when and where they could speak."
